~Some family pics~

Filed under: Family, Favorite Things, General, Uncategorized — Kristina @ 11:24 pm

Thanks to Lucas Brown in SC for these pics from a while ago…i was expecting Cayden here! We were so excited and so nervous as we had miscarried before this pregnancy.  As i look at these photos, i am full of gratitude to God for the peace i see in our eyes along with the hope and usual pre-baby jitters! God is so good.  He knows just what or who we need and when-His perfect timing makes me speechless…

Connor seems so little and young here! He has grown up so much…literally.

Wow…we are now four, but this was a sweet moment just the “three/four” of us.IMG_9500

~Tip of the month…~

Filed under: Favorite Things, General — Kristina @ 1:45 am

Most folks already know this, but various friends of mine have asked me to place tips and recipes along with ways we work with our kiddos on having such good behavior…so, this month i thought i would put a cleaning tip ++++

After working in the med field, owning our own property maintenance business at one time along with the blessing of being a mom, i’m very much into learning how to make life healthier, cleaner or in general easier…those of you who know me, know that i love a bargain as well.  I am thinking we all need each other to share our tips in life, so here are a few that have helped me…it is also floating around out there in email world…a friend passed the words below to me, so i copied and pasted to share!

Peroxide vs. Bleach

This was written by Becky Ransey of Indiana (a doctor’s Wife), and I want to share it with you. She was over recently for Coffee and smelled the bleach I was using to clean my toilet and counter Tops. This is what she told me: “I would like to tell you of the benefits of that Plain little ole bottle of 3% peroxide you can get for under $1.00 at any Drug store. What does bleach cost? My husband has been in the Medical field for over 36 years, and most doctors don’t tell you About peroxide.

“Have you ever smelled bleach in a doctor’s office? NO!!! Why? Because it smells, and it is not healthy! Ask The nurses who work in the doctor’s offices, and ask them if they use Bleach at home. They are wiser and know better!

“Did you also know bleach was invented in the late 40’s? It’s Chlorine , folks! And it was used to kill our troops.
“Peroxide was invented during WWI. It was used to save and Help cleanse the needs of our troops and hospitals. Please think About this:

1. Take one capful (the little white cap that comes with the bottle) and Hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out. (I do it When I bathe) No more canker sores, and your teeth will be whiter Without expensive pastes. Use it instead of mouthwash..
2. Let your toothbrushes soak in a cup of peroxide to keep them free of Germs.

3. Clean your counters and table tops with peroxide to kill germs and Leave a fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dishrag when you Wipe, or spray it on the counters.

4. After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it to Kill salmonella and other bacteria.

5. I had fungus on my feet for years until I sprayed a 50/50 mixture of Peroxide and water on them (especially the toes) every night and let dry.

6. Soak any infections or cuts in 3% peroxide for five to ten minutes Several times a day. My husband has seen gangrene that would not heal With any medicine but was healed by soaking in peroxide.

7. Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water and Keep it in every bathroom to disinfect without harming your septic System
Like bleach or most other disinfectants will.
8. Tilt your head back and spray into nostrils with your 50/50 mixture Whenever you have a cold, plugged sinus. It will bubble and help to Kill the bacteria. Hold for a few minutes, and then blow your nose Into a tissue.

9. If you have a terrible toothache and cannot get to a dentist right Away, put a capful of 3% peroxide into your mouth and hold it for ten Minutes
Several times a day. The pain will lessen greatly.

10. Put half a bottle of peroxide in your bath to help rid boils, fungus, or other skin infections.

11. You can also add a cup of peroxide instead of bleach to a load of Whites in your laundry to whiten them. If there is blood on Clothing, pour it
Directly on the soiled spot. Let it sit for a Minute, then rub it and rinse with cold water. Repeat if necessary.
12. I use peroxide to clean my mirrors. There is no smearing, which Is why I love it so much for this.
“I could go on and on. It is a little brown bottle no home Should be without! “With prices of most necessities rising, I’m glad there’s a way to Save tons of money in such a simple, healthy manner!”
This information really woke me up. I hope you gain something from It, too.

Pass this on .. And on … And on!

~more mischief~

Filed under: Family, Favorite Things, Funny Stuff — Kristina @ 6:59 pm

Been scrolling through some 2008 photos again and here is the  littlest Alford man of the household in some more mischief…

It’s funny, when Connor his big brother got into things i didn’t have a camera always near by…except once i did capture a pic of him dumping a whole box of Rice Krispies on his head and all over the parsonage kitchen floor we were living in at the time…

So here is Cayden having fun (for all ocd mamas out there…don’t worry, i was watching him very well-no strangling hazard here!)

~These are a “few” of my favorite things…~

Filed under: Favorite Things — Kristina @ 9:50 pm

Just had to share these pics with you from 2008 @ Casa de Alford!

sharing food and fun with friends

sharing food and fun with friends

Just love the relationships we have been building the past two years here in the “hills” as i so affectionately call where we live. In this post the hope is to highlight some fun times we have had in our humble home. i think in the approx. 1,000 sq.ft., one bath room ranch, we have hosted at the most 44 people at once and at minimum us four plus another single person or couple.

Years ago while Chris was in the military and our family was stationed over 18 hours driving distance from any of our family (Chris’ folks were even in another country at the time), we learned the importance of friends-making and keeping friends, however we were reminded the joy(sad/sweet) of friends moving on to other states, callings or circles to influence and encourage new places along the way…

Certainly we have a renewed sense of community…We have learned that friendship is give and take (mostly giving away self…).  Anyway, the give and take over the past two years has been work, but so worthwhile!

As far as small groups and the church plant goes-it seems everyone that began in our journey of a church start-up here have several common and unified truths to believe, at the same time we are all so unique and different in the way we live out all that stuff…we have some very “missional” minded folks, some who are called to serve and grow elsewhere,  some very knowledge driven folks, some encourage, some very artistic in the way they capture God’s creation in all areas, some give, some bring hilarious moments, we have all had a share of sad/tragic moments—yet in all and through all we have experienced as a group there has been much love and a fairly healthy dose of faith. Even when some have come for just a short while and moved on to be other places they are called to be, there is much joy in knowing we have been and will always have participated in some small way to either their healing/wholeness, maybe by encouraging some REST in Him in this journey we are all on, or maybe they were here to just find out more of who they are in Christ….no matter what we love all who have been here and choose to enjoy the challenge to all who come this way.  The challenge to all who come and all who are here is to not just find out who we are in Christ, but to put legs to it and live that out!  Our small group of sojourners have been such an unexpected blessing and we have thoroughly enjoyed having everyone into our home.

We hosted several parties in general in 2008, this includes but not limited to birthdays, anniversary, mom groups, Bible studies/small group gatherings and it has been so fun! The interesting common “ice breaker” has always been food and laughter!  Recently some of the small group members have acquired the new homes we have all prayed for and they have dared to be adventurous enough to have our “motley crew” in to their newly purchased homes—w/no real fear! Let me tell you, as a mom of a two year old it is so nerve racking to go to someone elses new home! I remember thinking “i hope we can afford to replace whatever the little stinker gets a  hold of!”  It doesn’t phase me to have had other children in any of our newer homes through the years, but us going elsewhere?  YIKES!!!  Well, all turned out well and our hosts were so gracious and kind! Turns out they love our kiddos and love having our small group over! Thanks E and A + R and A! Your homes are beautiful and so warm/inviting + i am enjoying  a break for sure…

So here are just a few pics to take a peak into some of our gatherings:

Some are small group, some are other various parties, enjoy!
